How to get to Siquijor from Cebu, Bohol, or Dumaguete

Choose the route before the timetable

Siquijor now has a direct commercial air link from Cebu plus two operating seaports: Siquijor Port and Larena. The nonstop flight is the time-first option when its selected-date inventory fits. Dumaguete gives the shortest sea approach, Tagbilaran creates the natural Bohol pairing, and Cebu still offers a daytime fast-ferry connection or a slower direct sailing on selected dates.

The comparison below describes route shapes, not guaranteed departures. Search the airline or official ferry operator for the travel date and inspect each leg, terminal, baggage rule, connection, and arrival point before paying.

From Cebu: check the direct flight first

Sunlight Air inaugurated Siquijor’s first commercial air service on December 15, 2025, connecting the island directly with Cebu. Its current booking site still lists Siquijor under airport code IQR, and Trip.com exposed nonstop CEB–IQR inventory for future 2026 dates when checked on August 27. That makes flying the first comparison for a short trip, a traveler sensitive to sea conditions, or anyone valuing one clean movement over the lowest base fare.

Do not copy an old weekly schedule into the itinerary. Search the actual dates, then compare the complete flight price after baggage, airport rides at both ends, fare rules, and the value of hours saved. Limited frequency can make the ferry more flexible, and a cancelled or moved island flight still needs a recovery plan.

Siquijor Airport is a different arrival contract from Siquijor Port or Larena. Send the flight number and airport pin to the property; a ferry-pier pickup quote does not automatically cover the airport.

From Dumaguete: the simplest first route

For travelers already in Dumaguete or flying into DGT, the direct ferry to Siquijor is usually the cleanest answer. OceanJet publishes the route and operates offices in both Dumaguete and Siquijor; Montenegro also exposes the Siquijor–Dumaguete market in its official fare search. Use the live booking result—not an old screenshot—to choose the operator and time.

Dumaguete Airport is outside the port compound, so a flight-to-ferry plan needs baggage delivery, a city transfer, check-in, and weather margin. Do not buy the last plausible connection on a separate airline ticket unless an unplanned Dumaguete night is acceptable.

Most short fast-ferry journeys use Siquijor Port, but the ticket is the authority. Send the exact terminal and arrival time to the resort before arranging pickup.

• Ticket check: exact port, check-in cutoff, baggage, class, and operator
• Connection rule: leave a substantial flight-to-ferry buffer or sleep in Dumaguete
• Arrival rule: confirm whether the hotel meets Siquijor Port or charges a separate ride

From Bohol: use Tagbilaran as the hinge

A Tagbilaran–Siquijor sailing is the natural connection after Panglao or a Bohol countryside stay. OceanJet currently lists Siquijor and Tagbilaran in its network and publishes direct and connecting services in schedule updates. Confirm that the direct departure is offered for the actual date rather than assuming yesterday’s timetable still applies.

Panglao is not Tagbilaran Port. Add the hotel-to-port vehicle, traffic, terminal entry, baggage handling, and check-in. If the morning begins with a dive, countryside tour, or airport arrival, the same-day ferry is a fragile plan.

This route is strongest when Bohol already deserves several nights. It is not automatically the fastest way from Cebu; a Cebu–Bohol–Siquijor itinerary should give Bohol real time rather than treating the island only as a waiting room.

From Cebu by sea: three routes, three different trips

The common fast-ferry logic is Cebu City to Tagbilaran, then Tagbilaran to Siquijor. Buy a through or explicitly protected connection when available. Two independent tickets create your own missed-connection risk, even if the timetable looks tidy.

Lite Ferries currently publishes a direct Cebu City–Larena sailing on selected dates. Its live August 2026 schedule shows a ten-hour trip from Cebu Passenger Terminal 1 to Larena. That can remove the vessel change but consumes much more time and may arrive late; verify berth, accommodation class, food, baggage, arrival pickup, and the schedule for your date.

Travelers already in Moalboal or the far south can continue overland to Liloan, cross to Sibulan, transfer into Dumaguete, then take another ferry to Siquijor. The provincial tourism office describes this path, but it is a multi-handoff route—not the smart default from Cebu City or Mactan Airport.

Siquijor Port versus Larena Port

The two terminals are not interchangeable. Siquijor Port sits closer to Siquijor Town and is the more convenient arrival for many San Juan stays. Larena is farther north and can be the correct terminal for direct slower services or a northern property. The resort—not the phrase “island transfer”—should confirm the actual pickup.

A room can be good value and still create an expensive port movement. Compare the full route from gangway to reception, especially for hill resorts, Lazi or Maria, late arrivals, children, and bulky luggage.

How to verify a live sailing

Start with the official operator schedule or booking engine. Search one direction and date at a time, then repeat the return before buying the room. A route shown on an operator’s network page does not prove it runs every day, and a schedule post can be superseded by an advisory.

For a connection, determine whether one booking reference covers both vessels and what happens when the first leg is late. If the operator cannot answer, use a longer connection, overnight in the hinge city, or choose a direct route.

We opened the two Trip.com products below on August 27, 2026. The ferry listing exposed selectable Cebu, Bohol, Dumaguete, and Siquijor packages; the vehicle listing sold the separate pier-to-destination handoff or a longer private charter. They are separate contracts. Never assume the ferry includes the hotel ride, or that a Siquijor transfer meets Larena when the selected package names Siquijor Port.

Baggage, seats, and port time

OceanJet’s February 2026 baggage policy lists 10 kg free for tourist/open-air passengers and 20 kg for business class, with route-specific excess and fragile-item charges. Treat that as a current operator rule to reconfirm, not an island-wide allowance. Another company, vessel, or fare can differ.

Arrive before the operator’s published cutoff with identification and the booking available offline. Keep medication, power banks, documents, valuables, and one change of clothes in a manageable carry-on. Ask how dive gear, surfboards, bicycles, strollers, and mobility equipment are accepted before purchase—not at the gangway.

Weather and self-transfer protection

Ferry operations can change because of marine conditions, safety decisions, mechanical issues, port restrictions, or operator adjustments. PAGASA and the Philippine Coast Guard inform the operating environment, but the carrier decides the passenger service. Follow official messages and never pressure a crew to sail.

Separate airline and ferry tickets generally do not protect each other. Before an international flight, return to Cebu, Bohol, or Dumaguete with enough margin to absorb a cancelled sailing—often an overnight is the rational choice. Travel insurance only helps when the exact disruption is covered by the purchased policy.

Book the route and room together

Choose the gateway, verify the outbound and return sailing, then hold a refundable Siquijor room. Ask the property for pickup from the named port and compare the complete direct room package with an affiliate room plus separate transfer.

For most first trips, San Juan is the forgiving base. A late Larena arrival can justify a northern first night only when it materially reduces risk; otherwise, one confirmed vehicle to the final hotel protects the rest of the stay. Save every ticket, terminal, property pin, and contact offline.
